Vitamin E (Tocopherol) is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from lipid peroxidation. Deficiency is rare, usually occurring with fat malabsorption disorders.

  • Insufficient intake (rare)
  • Fat malabsorption (celiac disease, cystic fibrosis)
  • Liver disease
  • Abetalipoproteinemia
